A Little History about Hawkes Bay Signs.
About HB Signs - Printer & Signage Specialist
Hawke's Bay Signs has been in operation for over 30 years originating in Napier in a partnership with Marty Shanaghan (sadly now passed). Later the business moved to Hastings after the purchase of another local company called City Signs and the name changed. Martin and Linda started operating out of a small rented building in Warren St. The opportunity then arose to purchase Paul Powell Upholstery across the road on a sunny corner site of Warren and Victoria Sts (now owned by HB Toyota) enabling an increase in staff. Technology played a major role in swiftly changing the traditional Signwriter from working with a paintbrush and maul stick to becoming a computer technician overnight. Signs originally painted by hand were being replaced by plotters, which perfectly cut the letters and the shaky hand was no more.
After 10 years HB Signs outgrew their workshop not with staff, but space needed for additional machinery. Son Zane joined the team as Graphic Designer and a decision was made to purchase our current high profile site at 411 St Aubyn St East (originally Hadwen Auto Upholstery) ironically our second existing upholstery building was brought, though this one was destined for demolition. The new purpose built sign shop was finished in May 2009 and we were able to expand all our machinery to the latest high tech digital printing machines we use today.
Our point of difference from then to now:
First Sign Writer in Hawke's Bay to purchase a fax machine.
One of the first Sign Writers in HB to introduce a vinyl plotter.
First Sign Writer in HB to purchase an Edge Printer.
The first in Hastings to purchase a 1600 wide Digital Printer.
The first sign shop in Hastings to own a CNC Router.
The first Sign Writer in HB to build a purpose built Sign Shop.
Out in the community we support Retina NZ, Blind Foundation and The Red Cross.
Currently we have a great team on board who are passionate about signage and presenting a quality finished product. We aim to keep up to date with the latest trends and keeping our staff trained to the highest standard to deliver the best in customer service. We look forward to being of assistance to you in any way possible and continue to serve our many loyal customers and friends.
